2008 Award Nominations
Award nominations process is now closed for 2008.
Nominations for Fellow, Honorary Fellow, and the Ed Payne Award are due March 1, 2008.
Any SAWE member may make a nomination. These prestigious awards designate an elite group of contributors to the SAWE and the field of mass properties engineering. Please give careful consideration in your nomination.

FELLOW AWARDS
NOMINEE EVALUATION CRITERIA
The following three point criteria is to be used for evaluation of nominees. Note that it is not a requirement that the nominee be a SAWE member.
1. Record of Achievement
An appropriate record of achievement must reflect an effective continual and universally recognized contribution at the National (International) level. The record shall unequivocally show accomplishments resulting in a major contribution to the recognition or advancement of the Society and /or the profession of Mass Properties Engineering.
2. Single Achievement
During the course of a year, a truly distinctive achievement can be nationally recognized and publicized. This must be a significant achievement resulting in a notable contribution to the recognition or advancement of the Society and/ or the profession of Weight Engineering.
3. National (International) Service
Chapter service alone, though significant, is not considered sufficient for this Award.
A term as a National (International) Officer in itself, shall not necessarily constitute nominee criterion. Neither shall a Fellowship be construed as a reward for competent and continuous committee or session work at the National (International) level. These factors can contribute as significant qualification points only in association with Criteria 1 or 2.
HONORARY FELLOW AND BENEFACTOR AWARDS
NOMINEE EVALUATION CRITERIA

The record shall unequivocally show accomplishments resulting in a major contribution to the recognition or advancement of the Society and /or the profession of Mass Properties Engineering.
2. Single Achievement
During the course of a year, a truly outstanding achievement can be nationally recognized and publicized. This must be a significant achievement resulting in a major contribution to the recognition or advancement of the Society and/ or the profession of Weight Engineering.
3. Public Relations
Special honor and awards are frequently bestowed by organizations upon prominent persons highlighted in the current news. That person provides a ready-made bandwagon upon which to climb, thereby bringing the organization’s name before the public.
It will be recognized that the unrestrained or indiscriminate bestowal of the award for publicity sake alone can quickly relegate to a status not at all in keeping with the intent. Only when awarded with prudence can recognition of the Society be publicized while maintaining the purpose, standards and integrity of the award.
The basic contingency shall be simple and not compromised. There shall be a recognized, well defined or clearly implied association between the individuals publicized accomplishment and the acknowledgment that controlled mass properties contributed to the success of that accomplishment.
4. National (International) Service

ED PAYNE AWARD
The Ed Payne Award is given to a young engineer (age less than 35 at the time of nomination) who has contributed significantly to SAWE of the weight engineering profession. Nominations should outline in detail the candidate’s background, contributions, and elaborate details of qualifications for nomination to this award.
