How do I join the SAWE?

Log into your account on sawe.org (see "How do I get an account on sawe.org?").  Click the "My Membership" link listed under your user name in the left column on the home page. This will take you to a form where you can update your membership information and verify your membership status.

How do I renew my membership online?

Log into your account on sawe.org (see "How do I get an account on sawe.org?").  Click on the "Renew Membership" link listed under your user name in the left column on the home page. This will take you to a form where you can renew your membership online using a credit card. You may also contact your local chapter Treasurer directly to pay your dues.

What are SAWE Member Numbers?

SAWE Member Numbers are unique identification codes that are assigned to each SAWE member starting in late 2008. The SAWE Member Numbers are used to help verify membership and provide access to electronic voting. The number begins with an "X" and ends in a four digit number.

Where do I find my SAWE Member Number?

Your SAWE Member Number is printed on all SAWE Mailings including the SAWE Journal. The member number is also included at the end email newsletters and announcements. See example member number above.

You may also find your membership number by visiting the "My Membership" on sawe.org. An account is required on sawe.org. For more information on creating an account on sawe.org, click here.

You may also use the Contact Us page to request your membership number. Please include your full name, company, and SAWE Chapter in the request.

How do I get an account on sawe.org?

Current and previous SAWE members are eligible for accounts on sawe.org. Only current members can access the Members area of the website. Previous members can update their membership information and renew or reinsate their membership.

The process is simple. Go to the web page listed below or click on the "Create new account" link on the sawe.org home page and fill out the registration form.

If the email address given during the registration process matches the email address we have on record for you, then an email will be sent to your address to confirm your identity. Click on the enclosed link and your account will be confirmed.

If you provided a different email or if we did not have a previous email address for you, then please allow 24 hours for the account registration information to be verified and matched to your membership record.

I do not remember my user name or password.  How do I get my login information?

Go to the following web page and enter your user name or email address. You will be sent instructions with a link to change your user name or password.

I no longer have access to the members only information and the website returns "Access Denied" when I try to access the Members link.  What do I do?

Verify your membership status (see "How do I verify my current membership status?"). If your membership status is listed as "Arrears" or "Expired", you need to renew your membership (see "How do I renew my membership online?").  If you have recently renewed, please contact your local chapter Treasurer or the Executive VP (responsible for membership) at executivevp@sawe.org, to verify and update your membership status.

Purchasing and Downloading Papers


How do I purchase and download a paper?

  • Search and select a paper using the SAWE Paper Database
  • Select the "Purchase/download this paper" link
  • Select "Add to cart" from the paper product page
  • Members, Login to your SAWE Account to see member discount price. For information on registering for an SAWE Account, visit our Frequently Asked Questions Page.
  • When you are ready, select "Checkout" from the shopping cart page or the shopping cart block in the upper right column of the page.
  • Select method of payment. For free products (zero $0.00 order total), select "Check, Money Order, or No Payment Required ($0.00)" method of payment.*
  • Select "Review Order" to review order.
  • Select "Submit Order" to complete order. Order is not complete until the "Submit order" button is selected and the confirmation page is displayed.
  • Once the order payment is complete, please check your email inbox for an email confirming your order and a separate email with the file download link.
  • If you do not receive the file download link, please check your spam folder for the email message. If you still do not receive an email, please use our contact form.
  • New users will also have an account automatically created on sawe.org. The account name and login instructions will be sent via email.
  • Users may also access files they have purchased to the purchased files page under your account.
  • Purchased files are available for download for six months after your order is complete.

What SAWE products are included?

How is the discount applied?

A discount coupon code is automatically applied to members shopping cart when an applicable product is added to the cart. The coupon is good for 1 free product per order. Multiple papers or recommended practices may be purchased using multiple orders.

The free download limit renews each year on May 1st for members in good standing.


I am not seeing the discount. What do I do?

  • Check your membership status. Your membership must be current to receive the discount.
  • You have exceeded your 10 downloads. Check your purchased files.
  • Current year conference papers are not included in free downloads.

Can I apply for additional downloads beyond the 10 item limit?

The following exceptions apply to the 10 item limit:

  • SAWE Corporate Partners
    • SAWE Corporate Partner company representatives receive unlimited downloads
    • If you need to find your companies representatives, please contact us using your company's email address.
  • Academic and noncommercial research
    • Research exceptions can be granted by the SAWE Executive Director
    • A technical paper is required to be presented to the SAWE with the results of each research project.

Shipping charges where applicable are noted and included in the product price.


Credit Card Orders

Credit card information is collected and sent directly to our credit card processor, Authorize.Net, through encrypted and secure transactions. No credit card information is stored on SAWE servers.

You credit card will be charged immediately after the checkout process is complete. Please review your Shopping Cart carefully before proceeding to checkout. Credit card orders are subject to a 4% cancelation fee after the order is confirmed.


Check/Money Orders

Make payment payable to the Society of Allied Weight Engineers, Inc. and mail to the contact address shown below. Order is not final until payment is received.


Wire Transfers

The SAWE cannot accept wire transfers for payment for SAWE Store purchases.  Credit Cards, Checks and Money orders are the only accepted form of payment.

Boeing Defense, Space & Security’s Phantom Works division is seeking an Experienced Mass Properties Engineer (Level 3) at the St Louis site to support upcoming Fixed Wing Advanced Development Programs.   The individual in this role will play a key element in shaping the future for Boeing and our DoD Customers leading mass properties weight estimation, tracking, management, and key design trades to mature an air vehicle concept.  As a mass properties engineer in Phantom Works, you will be a part of a team focused on the implementation of model based engineering.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced design weight estimation to develop preliminary weight estimates to support advanced design proposals, prototyping efforts, trade studies, etc.
  • Perform estimation, calculation, and measurement/verification of mass, center of gravity, and inertias of components, assemblies and completed vehicles or systems.
  • Provides complex vehicle or system configuration guidance.
  • Support Mass Properties control and management plan execution across the program.
  • Coordinate with SME’s across the program to understand weight impacts of design decisions.
  • Support the development and presentation of weight status or technical data to design teams, program leadership, and the customer.
  • Support the development, population, enhancement and maintenance of the mass properties database including the generation of weight and balance reports.
  • Review and support detail and installation drawing release processes.
  • Support development of center of gravity envelopes to ensure loadability requirements are met.
  • Creates, develops and implements new processes and tools to facilitate improved design and analysis capabilities.
  • Works under minimal direction.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering or related technical field.
  • 7+ years of Mass Properties experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with 3D modeling software such as Unigraphics (NX), CATIA, and Teamcenter.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).  Investigation type and last investigation date must be visible on resume.
  • Aerospace knowledge of fixed wing military aircraft in key disciplines (Airframe, Avionics, Propulsion, Hydraulics, etc.).
  • Mass Properties team/engineering leadership and project planning experience.

The Boeing Defense, Space and Security division is seeking a MQ-25 Mass Properties Lead in Hazelwood, MO.

The MQ-25 Air Vehicle team is seeking a Mass Properties / Weights Engineering Lead (Level 4) to join the team in Hazelwood, Missouri. The MQ-25 program is working the Engineering and Manufacturing Development of 7 flight vehicles and two full-scale test articles.  This position will be responsible for coordination of the mass properties team, completion of vehicle weight reporting, and final aircraft weights.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of Mass Properties engineers to control weight and balance characteristics of the aircraft in order to meet performance requirements.

  • Responsible for developing and presenting weight status or technical data to program management, the customer or design groups.

  • Guides and mentors other mass properties engineers on the program.

  • Responsible for coordination of full aircraft weighing and weight reports.

  • Determines approaches to and leads development of, complex weight, balance and mass properties data. Leads the definition of complex weight, balance and mass properties related design requirements. Participates in developing challenging customer specification commitments. 

  • Determines approaches to and leads development of, vehicle or system configuration guidance.

  • Conduct advanced design weight estimation to develop preliminary weight estimates to support advanced design proposals, prototyping efforts, trade studies, etc.

Senior Mass Properties Engineer – Vertical Lift

The Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Vertical Lift division is seeking a Senior Mass Properties Engineer to lead Mass Properties control and management located in Ridley Park, PA. This position will be a part of a mass properties team that supports all vertical lift programs in Philadelphia. The Vertical Lift Division is focused on designing the next generation FLRAA (Future Long Range Assault Aircraft) for the US Army.   Vertical Lift also provides a wide range of support on programs across the enterprise, primary the Army’s AH-6, AH-64, CH-47, MH-47, the Air Force’s CV-22, MH-139, and Marines/Navy’s MV-22, CMV-22.  Along with these programs the Ridley Park site supports a large portfolio of products including other Vertical Lift Programs, Commercial Aircraft, Fixed Wing Fighters, Satellites, Space Launch Systems, and many others.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Determines approaches to and leads development of, complex weight, balance and mass properties data.

  • Leads the definition of complex weight, balance and mass properties related design requirements. Participates in developing challenging customer specification commitments.

  • Experience using a mass properties database in order to track weight, and center of gravity information of all aircraft details is desired.

  • Good oral and written communication skills are necessary to communicate with the design teams, other mass properties engineers, program management at all levels, and the customer.
