2014-02 Marine & Offshore Weight Workshop - February 28, 2014 - Houston, Texas

Marine & Offshore Weight Workshop
February 28, 2014
Houston, Texas

Marine & Offshore Weight WorkshopThe Society of Allied Weight Engineers (SAWE) Houston Chapter is hosting a 1 day workshop.

  • Offshore Weight Terminology (Bill Randall, AMEC)
    • Develop a glossary to be endorsed by SAWE as a standard for offshore weight management terminology and definitions
  • Offshore Weighing Procedures (Dave Bennett, Worley-Parsons)
    • Weighing offshore structures is accomplished at the end of the fabrication phase - using multiple weighing devices (i.e. large capacity load cells) to determine an overall weight and center of gravity.  To properly interpret and understand the results, weight engineers need to understand methods used to create accurate pre-weighing estimates and the process and equipment used to perform the weighing.
  • Offshore Weight Reporting Procedures (Stein Bjørhovde, BAS Engineering)
    • Standard layouts for printouts to be included in the weight report for engineering and construction of offshore structures
  • Adaptation of SAWE Marine Recommended Practices (RP) and Standards to Offshore (Clint Stephenson, Wood Group Mustang & Alfred Munoz, KCA Deutag LLC)
    • Discuss SAWE RPs 12-15 dealing with the Marine industry and the applicability to the Offshore industry.  Make suggestions on how to update the existing RPs for Offshore, use them as go-bys to develop new RPs, and/or relying on ISO 19901-5
