Hello and welcome to the Houston Chapter of SAWE.  Our Chapter of 23 members primarily serves the mass property engineering community in the Aerospace and Offshore Industries.  We're proud to have been chosen as the host for the 2011 International Conference on Mass Properties.

The Houston Chapter of SAWE is proud to host the 2011 International SAWE Conference from May 14-19th, 2011 at the Houston Hilton WestChase.  Please check back soon for more details!

Chapter Meetings

The Houston Chapter is geographically split between the Clear Lake Area and the West Side, which serve the aerospace and offshore industries respectively.  To address this unique situation, our monthly meetings alternate between Local meetings and General meetings.  Local meetings are held on or around the same day, but on opposite sides of town.  General meetings take place at a central location within Houston.

June 16, 2010

SAWE Meeting-Houston Chapter: Presentation of ShipWeight Version 9.0

Location: Royal Norwegian Consulate General

The Houston chapter of SAWE met on Wednesday afternoon, June 16, 2010 at the Royal Norwegian Consulate General.  The focus of this meeting was to brief and demonstrate the capabilities of ShipWeight version 9.0.

The meeting began with opening remarks by Mr. Bjørn Tormod Akselsen, Director of Innovation Norway, thanking both Mr. Runar Aasen and SAWE for attending.

During lunch Mr. Runar Aasen, the founder and technical sales manger of BAS Engineering gave a presentation highlighting several new features included in the latest version of ShipWeight.  The presentation address the latest developments in ShipWeight; including parametric estimation, project monitoring and development reporting, weight distribution of system weights, automatic ballasting to optimize deck load, moment of inertia and 3D visualization of a mass database.  Mr. Aasen stated that BAS Engineering is currently working with Northrop Grumman in Redondo Beach to develop a satellite version of ShipWeight.  Mr. Aasen will be present at the Fall Regional Conference this year, where he plans to host trading sessions for ShipWeight.

Following Mr. Aasen presentation Consul General Lasse Sigurd Seim give a brief speech highlighting several of Consulate General services.  This includes trade promotion and business expansion through Innovation Norway, which focuses on facilitating business relations for Norwegian companies wishing to establish themselves in the region.   Currently there are over one hundred Norwegian firms in the petroleum and maritime sector in Houston.
