Overview
Gibbs & Cox, Inc. is one of the nation’s leading independent naval architecture, marine engineering and design firms. We are seeking a well qualified individual for a position as the company’s Weight Engineering Manager, based out of our Arlington, VA office.
The Weight Engineering Manager is responsible for the timely and accurate estimation and preparation of all mass properties estimates and reports. He or she must have excellent organizational skills, be proficient in MS-Excel, and have experience with database management. The Weight Engineering Manager supervises a small team of engineers, and is also responsible for coordinating and quality checking of weight estimates conducted by other departments before acceptance into the weight estimate database.
Responsibilities:
- Fully responsible for timely and accurate preparation of mass properties reports for all programs
- Manage a staff of project weight engineers
- Coordinate weight take off efforts conducted by system lead engineers from all departments
- Quality assurance of all mass properties estimates developed by project weight engineering staff and system lead engineers from all departments
- Data management of changes to the mass properties estimate. This includes several items such as:
- Historical logging of all changes incorporated into the working database or specific weight reports (such as drawing revisions, revision notices, etc…)
- Real time logging of all pending changes to the working database (such as drawing revisions, revision notices, field change notices, updated Vendor Furnished Information, etc…)
- Real time logging of status of Vendor Furnished Information (VFI) (requested, received, revision level)
- Real time logging of status of scale weighed material
- Participation in the Configuration Control Board, and the accurate and timely reporting of mass properties impacts from proposed design changes at these meetings
- Active monitoring of the design of the ship to identify poor weight control practices
- Active monitoring of the production of the ship to identify poor weight control practices
- Preparation and presentation of alternative design and build materials, arrangement, and/or practices to control weight growth
- Hiring and supervision of project weight engineers to assist in meeting all of these responsibilities
- Manage ship inclining experiments (planning, preparation, execution, and reporting)
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizen able to gain security clearance
- Current SECRET clearance desirable
- High School Diploma
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering highly desired
- At least 15 years of experience in weight engineering, at least 5 of which has been spent in the marine field
- U.S. Navy or International Navy surface combatant weight engineering experience highly desired
- Proficient in MS-Excel
- Experience with MS-Access
- Experience with SDWE highly desirable
