Key Words25. WEIGHT ENGINEERING - SYSTEM ESTIMATION
AbstractThe extensive studies of advanced space transportation systems at NASA-Langley Research Center were ?jump started? with codes that were established many years ago for the current Space Shuttle. However, in view of the wide range of items now being studied it seems to be appropriate to change to a more general system ? one such system is used by the Navy in shipbuilding wherein 100 to 199 is structure, and 200 to 299 is propulsion, etc. In this system many types of structure or propulsion can be embraced or deleted without disrupting the highest hierarchy of the numbering sequence in the code. Vehicle examples are shown with the new coding system applied. Its appropriate to use a coding system that suits the particular project ? where there?s a will there?s a ?weigh.
