| Abstract | Microsoft Excel and Word have been used together to automate the weight estimation, tracking, and reporting process for the Space Shuttle Orbiter Lightweight Seats Project being conducted at the NASA Johnson Space Center. The tools developed with the two software packages are part of a weight control plan which requires the establishment of control weights, weight growth allowances and depletion schedules, tracking of the weight estimations over time (weight trend tracking), and periodic weight status reports. This paper discusses how the two software packages interact through embedded object linking and through publish and subscribe functions. The data exchange between linked Excel worksheets and graphs are also discussed. Included in this discussion is the logic used to develop weight trend plots and tabular data for status reports. |
