Beginning in the late 1960's and continuing into the early 1970's, the LTV Aircraft Products Group put forth a considerable effort to develop a complete weight estimation capability for fighter/attack aircraft. The results are contained in 17 volumes of documented methods and have been incorporated in ASAP (Aircraft Synthesis and Analysis Program) for use in parametric sizing of aircraft. The total weight estimation system has been used quite successfully for the past several years. Due to technology advances and current trends in design practices and material usage, a major effort to update these methods has been initiated. This paper deals with the updating of the flight controls weight prediction methodology.
