| Abstract | By constantly increasing requirements for work precision and productivity of manufacturing processes and the increasingly keen competition, questions on the application of new materials such as aluminium/lithium or fibre materials are raised more and more. In the past few years in the aerospace and automobile industries, significant product innovations have achieved by substituting metal materials in particular with composites. A break-through can be expected with glass-fibre, carbon-fibre and aramid-fibre reinforced plastics using epoxide , phenolique or polyester resin matrix. With excellent mechanical and thermal properties, the determining factors here are possible energy savings by reduction in weight or higher performance with the same energy application. Taking the example of the projected European wide-body aircraft, the AIRBUS A340, the varied range of application of fibre reinforced plastics is evident : flaps, spoilers and airbrakes on the wing, the primary and secondary structure of the vertical and horizontal tailplane and all kind of fairings are typical examples for the application of composite parts in the aircraft industry today (Fig. 1). |
