President

SAWE Members, I am requesting your vote as I seek reelection as your SAWE International President. The President needs to be prepared to supervise the activities of the SAWE and communicate the endeavors of the Society to the membership. Likewise, the President needs to assist in conference planning and to preside at all Board of Director meetings and ensure they are carried out in accordance with the By-Laws. I believe that my past SAWE experience of executing several training slates as well as international conference planning and Board of Directors participation has positioned me well to continue as your SAWE International President.

This year has become an important year for the society as we spent some serious time dealing with strategic planning and change. We have begun to reach out to other organizations for recognition and collaboration in the field of Mass Properties. This was part of the Society’s effort to be the industry recognized repository for Mass Properties knowledge and training. In the coming year, I hope to continue the outreach effort, maintain the success of the corporate partner program, and continue to seek out new corporate and individual members. I sincerely request that you re-elect me, Anthony Primozich, as your International President. Thank you very much for your support.

Anthony “Primo” Primozich lives in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and is employed by US Air Force as an Aerospace Engineer focusing on Propulsion and Mass Properties. He graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 2000 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He promptly accepted a position as a civil servant at Wright-Patterson AFB and has contributed significantly to the development and acquisition of several military programs and platforms. Primo obtained his MS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Dayton in 2004 and became a registered Professional Engineer in 2006.

Primo has been a member of the SAWE since 2001 and is an active part of the Kittyhawk chapter; where he has served in every office. He has attended multiple International Conferences; participating as a training class student, author, presenter, Board of Directors representative, and a Military Aircraft Workshop panel member.  He served as one of the Deputy Vice Presidents for Training and was later elected as Senior Vice President. Primo received the Ed Payne Award in 2008 and the title of Fellow in 2011.

 


Executive Vice President

Robert HundlRobert Hundl

Robert is currently the Weight Control Manger for the Exxon Mobil Odoptu Stage 2 Project at Fluor, Inc. in Houston Texas. Fluor is an Engineering & Construction company serving the Oil and Gas industry and other industries (such as power plants, mining, road & bridges, etc.).

Previously, Robert was the Mass Properties Lead for the Commercial Crew Vehicle Program at The Boeing Company in Houston Texas and was a co-leader for the company’s Enterprise-wide Mass Properties Functional Skill Team. He was also the Orbiter Mass Properties Sub-System Manager (SSM) for the NASA Space Shuttle System. As the SSM, he was the technical lead for the Orbiter Mass Properties group and was considered the technical expert by his customers (NASA and United Space Alliance (USA)). He received SSM certification from the NASA Riley board in 2002 and held the position until the shuttle was retired from service and placed in museums. While fresh from college he worked in the Space Shuttle Integration Mass Properties for The Boeing Company. Leaving the Aerospace Industry from 1995 to 2002, he worked in manufacturing, product management, and information technology while at PI Components Corp (subsidiary of Emerson) with ancillary pressure instrumentation components. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering.

Robert has been a SAWE member at large since 1992 and a Houston charter member since 2003. He received the SAWE President’s award in 2003 for his work in helping to organize the chapter. He has served as Vice President, President, and Director of the Houston Chapter. He led the chapter in hosting the 2014 fall workshop at Texas A&M University – Galveston. He has also supported chapter projects and events.

At the International Level, Robert has served in the past as the Executive Vice President for one year, the Vice President Technical Director for three years, Co-Chairman of the Flight Technology Unmanned and Space for three years, and has been a member of the technical committee for 10 years or more. He has attended many international conferences and several board of directors meetings. He assisted the Houston Chapter in hosting the International conference in 2011. As a member at large, he assisted the Huntsville Chapter in hosting the 1995 Huntsville International Conference. He has written one SAWE paper, plans to write more, and made a technical presentation at last years conference.

Robert believes his leadership experience and varying engineering backgrounds provide a solid foundation upon which to advance the mass properties engineering specialization thereby also promoting the goals of SAWE.

Experience:
William Boze has over 35 years of ship design and shipbuilding experience in increasingly responsible positions. His experience encompasses concept design development, arrangements, naval architecture analyses, mass properties estimating and control, engineering structural analysis, structural closure design, hull outfitting, habitability, stowage, environmental safety & health, waterfront engineering support, and engineering software application development.

Candidate Statement:
I'm back!!!!! After working in the oil and gas industry and supporting this industry through participation in the American Petroleum Institute for the last four years, I find myself back again with my first love, ship engineering, with all the system engineering, analyses and mass properties control that comes with it. I hope the SAWE society members will once again bestow its confidence in me as an officer of the society, so I can this time around lead the update of the society's Operations Manual and ensure we as a society have the facility and conference committees’ necessary to present, exchange and document new and successful mass properties control practices.

 


SAWE By-Laws/Contstitution Admendments

Proposed Change#1 – Increase SPC Responsibilities

The Society shall amend the By-laws to reflect the increased responsibilities of the Standards and Practices Committee associated with its role as the Society’s ANSI Standards developer.

Descriptive Narrative:

In 2014, SAWE became an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer.  Achieving and maintaining this status requires the Society to develop and implement certain processes that directly impact the responsibilities and organization of the Standards and Practices Committee (SPC).  SAWE TO-2 “SAWE Procedures as an Accredited Standards Developer with the American National Standards Institute” (http://www.sawe.org/technical/rp/TO2) describes these responsibilities in more detail.  Changes to the By-laws are required to address the new SPC responsibilities including:  identifying it as the Society’s interface with ANSI and ISO; defining its authority in developing and maintaining mass properties engineering related documents including standards, recommended practices, handbooks, textbooks, etc.;   establishing that SAWE retains the Copyright on SPC published documents and defining the process for allowing jointly published documents.  The Board of Directors recommends a vote For the adoption of the proposed changes to the Standards and Practices Committee responsibilities.

Pro’s

  1. Provides Standards and Practices Committee the authority to be the Society’s interface with ANSI and ISO.
  2. Defines who has authority and responsibility for developing, maintaining and publishing mass properties technical documents.
  3. Makes By-laws consistent with ANSI standard development processes as described in TO-2.

Con’s

  1. Gives the Standards and Practices Committee too much authority.

 

Proposed Change#2 – Elevate position of SPC Chair to Vice-President/SPC

The Society shall amend the By-laws to elevate the position of the Standards and Practices Committee Chair to Vice-President/Standards and Practices.
Descriptive Narrative:

In 2014, SAWE became an ANSI Accredited Standards Developer.  This resulted in a dramatic increase in the responsibilities for the Standard and Practices Committee (SPC) and the SPC Chair as described in the associated By-laws change proposal.  The SPC currently consists of 7 committees that maintain 27 products and develop or update an average of 2 product each year.  The SPC Chair is now the official Society interface with ANSI and ISO, and other technical societies, such as AIAA.  This change would have an impact to the responsibilities of the President and Executive Vice-President if adopted as the new position would be selected and report to the President instead of the Executive Vice-President.  The Board of Directors recommends a vote For elevating the position of the Standard and Practices Committee Chair to Vice-President/Standards and Practices.

Pro’s

  1. Provides proper level of authority for the Society’s interface with ANSI, ISO and other technical societies.
  2. Makes position consistent with job responsibilities.

Con’s

  1. Reduces role of the Executive Vice-President.
  2. Makes the SAWE too top-heavy by adding another Vice-President
