The Wichita chapter of SAWE met Monday evening, November 12, 2007 at the Timberline Steakhouse. Twenty members and guests were in attendance. It was decided that the SAWE chapter would purchase a new projector screen to replace the old one that ripped recently. It was decided our next meeting would be in January and suggestions were asked for other restaurants that we could meet in. Our activity for December will be adopting a family through the Salvation Army. Vic Graham will be contacting them to sign up for a family.
Vic reminded those in attendance that we will be hosting an International Conference in 2009 and that we need to get our committees organized and start planning for that conference. It was announced that the meetings for the conferences would not be happening at our regular SAWE meetings.
After we enjoyed the meal Darren McCloud gave a presentation that he has prepared for mangers at his company titled “New Method for Developing Dollars per Pound for Business Jets”. He shared information about what customers use to help decide which business will be the most productive to buy. From these formulas he was able to derive a formula that effectively gave developing dollars per pound for a business jet. This is something that all business jet companies use to try and gauge how much it’ll cost to develop a certain size business jet. After presenting the information he asked if there were any questions or comments on his analysis and proposal. It was asked if his presentation would be available for distribution and analysis. That question is pending with his management.
The meeting was adjourned about 8:30 pm.

Chapter Meeting June 25, 2007

The Wichita chapter of SAWE met Monday evening, June 26, 2007 at the Whiskey Creek Steakhouse. Sixteen members and guests were in attendance. It was decided that this would be the last meeting until the picnic in the fall. There were a couple of surprise awards handed out. Doug Cekal received the title of Fellow. Wesley Kleinschmidt received the President’s Service Award. Pat Brown accepted both awards on their behalf at the International Conference in Madrid, Spain.
Vic Graham reminded those in attendance that we will be hosting an International Conference in 2009 and that we need to get our committees organized and start planning for that conference. It was announced that several spouses were interested in forming the Spouse Events Committee. It was also announced Gopal will be reporting to work at Cessna on July 9th. He is planning to head the vendor committee. A new secretary was appointed due to Ed Chrisco job change to FalconJet. Stephen Demarest took over his duties that night.
After we enjoyed the meal Arif Zaidi gave a presentation on his experience at the International Conference. There were approximately 300 people in attendance at the conference. There were quite a few papers on shipbuilding and several more on aircraft. There were also quite a few activities for the spouses and sites to see around the countryside. Quite a few pictures of their trip were shared. Arif was amazed by some of the software, Optistruct, which was being utilized in aircraft like the A380. This software performs several stress functions to help reduce weight and optimize the structure. We learned of Pat’s “luck” traveling to and from Madrid. His luggage was lost both times.
The meeting was adjourned about 9:10 pm.
SAWE Wichita Chapter
Submitted by edwardchrisco on Sat, 2007-06-09 23:57.The Wichita chapter of SAWE met Monday evening, May 21, 2007 at the Golden Corral Buffet. Thirteen members and guests were in attendance. It was decided that we would have another meeting in June to discuss the SAWE International Conference in Madrid and get reports from Pat Brown & Arif Zaidi (members who are attending). Vic Graham reminded those in attendance that we will be hosting an International Conference in 2009 and that we need to get our committees organized and start planning for that conference. He will bring a list of committees needed to the June meeting and be asking for volunteers. There was some discussion about having Door Prizes at the meetings. This was tabled and will be discussed by the Executive Board and recommendations made at the next meeting.
After we enjoyed the buffet meal, Pat Brown gave his presentation Evaluation of Single Engine Weight and Center of Gravity Determination Methods. He compared four different weighing procedures and made recommendations on improving the weighing process for Single Engine Aircraft to achieve more consistent results. He answered questions from the audience and invited people to call or email him with additional comments or feedback in the next couple of days. He will be flying out of Wichita on Thursday morning for Madrid and the conference which starts on Saturday, May 26, with the Board of Directors meeting. Pat is our chapter director and will represent us at the conference.

The annual dues for the current year remain unchanged from last year. Renewal applications submitted no later than May 1 will ensure uninterrupted benefits of membership. The Renewal Form is attached for your convenience. New members are always welcome! An Application for Individual Membership may be obtained for new members by contacting me, your company focal or download the form attached to this posting. If you are a former member, allow us to welcome you back! Membership in SAWE provides the opportunity to gain technical information and develop peer networks on an international level. The local chapter activities, such as our annual picnic and our Air Capital Regional Conference are rewarding as well. Hope you will all join us for another year!

A great turnout of members and family celebrated a beautiful fall day at Sedgwick County Park Wichita, Kansas. You could tell by the size of the hamburgers we were in Kansas. Where talking huge. Thanks to Darrin McCloud for cooking them up just the way we like-em.
Thanks to Claudia Ritter-Tuttle who directed the activities for the kids and kids at heart. The egg toss and three-legged race were highlights of the event.
The success of the event was due largely to Victor Graham whom coordinated the event and thanks to the members for making it a great success. I can’t wait till next year.
