WEIGHT ENGINEERING - SYSTEM DESIGN}, address = {New Orleans, Louisiana}, abstract = {The historic trend in aircraft propulsion system thrust-to-weight ratio has been show to have doubled in the last fifteen years. This trend is dramatically illustrated in Figure 1 in which two engines are show to the same scale. The J47 engine was introduced into service in 1951 and saw extensive service in teh F86 Saberjet during the Korean conflict. The GE1 engine was first run in 1966 and performance details are still classified. Although both engines are in the same thrust class, the great reduction in weight and volume is apparent from the photograph.}, keywords = {24.
