Weight Engineering - System Design %X A computerized analytical procedure is described for synthesizing and then size-optimizing a large space structure to handle accelerations required for transferring it from the Shuttle at low earth-orbit (LEO) to geosynchronous orbit (GEO). This paper examines the effects of alternative construction materials, onboard equipment masses, mass fraction in structural joints, and selected minimum gauges in truss members. The analysis accounts for the payload and volume limitations of the Shuttle cargo bay. %B 40th Annual Conference, Dayton, Ohio, May 4-7 %I Society of Allied Weight Engineers, Inc. %C Dayton, Ohio %P 19 %8 5/4/81 %G eng %U https://www.sawe.org/papers/1443/buy %9 24.
