Certification Process

Associate Mass Properties Engineer (AMPE) – Certification Process

  • Please complete the application on page 1 and send it to CMPE@sawe.org. Attach your degree and written confirmation from your reference(s).
  • We will review it for completeness and confirm your experiences. The SAWE Certification – Application Review Team will reach out to the Reference Contacts to validate your experience.
  • You will receive a confirmation that you qualify and tell you to pay your application fee on the SAWE.org website. If you do not qualify you will receive a request for further information or be notified on your need for more experience.
  • You will pay the application fee on Training&Certification – Shop.
  • Meanwhile you should prepare for the exam.  Ideally, you should review the SAWE Textbooks and Handbooks listed in Reference Documents.  You should find a mentor to answer your questions about the technical publications.  If there isn’t a more experienced engineer in you company, home town, chapter, etc., please, contact CMPE@sawe.org, so we can arrange something.
  • When you are ready to take the exam please register for the next online-exam and pay the exam-fee on Training&Certification – Shop.
  • You will be advised whether you pass and receive a certificate.  You can retake the exam for an additional fee.

Professional Mass Properties Engineer (PMPE) – Certification Process

  • Successfully, complete the Associates Mass Properties Engineer process above, including the exam.
  • Send an updated Application to CMPE@SAWE.org.
  • Make sure you include your additional experience, and project on the application.
  • List Technical Papers, Committees, standards committees that you have worked on.
  • Name of a AMPE that you have mentored.
  • Once the application has been reviewed and approved, you will be asked to pay the exam fee on Training&Certification – Shop.
  • To prepare by review all the Industry related textbooks, Recommended Practices, and technical papers from SAWE.  Find a mentor or someone else to help with your studies.
  • Take the Professional Mass Properties Engineer exam.

Expert Mass Properties Engineer (EMPE) – Certification Process

  • Complete the AMPE & PMPE processes above and including the exams.
  • Submit an application for approval and then pay the exam fee on Training&Certification – Shop.
  • Make sure you include your additional experience, and project on the application.
  • List Technical Papers, Committees, standards committees that you have worked on.
  • Name of a PMPE that you have mentored.
  • Prepare by adding government regulations, industry standards, international standards and related industry technical papers to your exam review cycle.  You will be expected to be All KNOWING.
  • Take the exam.

General

  • Remark: Exams may be taken with delayed payments. In such cases the certificate will be presented only after the full payment has been received. The validity of the certificate will begin with the date of the exam. Please contact cmpe@sawe.org beforehand.
