From the founding settlements of Jamestown to the Mercury 7 astronauts, the Hampton Roads region is steeped in history.  Hampton Roads is home to the world’s largest Naval station, one of the oldest shipyards in America and the oldest of NASA’s field centers.  With these critical industries, it is no wonder that the Hampton Roads Chapter has long been active in the Society of Allied Weight Engineers.

The current membership includes employees of Huntington Ingalls Industries – Newport News Shipbuilding, NASA Langley Research Center, Analytical Mechanics Associates, as well as a number of retired members.  In support of the SAWE International, the Hampton Roads chapter has hosted Regional Conferences in 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2009 and International Conferences in 1986, 2001 and 2010.  Hampton Roads is also proud to host the upcoming Regional Conference in September 2018 and the International Conference in May 2019!

The chapter also boasts many of it members individually supporting the SAWE International including SAWE President Bill Boze.  Nick Marickovich is the current Hampton Roads Chapter Director and also the VP of Publications.  Alan Bird is the Deputy VP of Training.  Jeff Cerro is the Deputy VP of Standards and Practices.  Other members are active in the SnP and Awards Committees and Co-Chairs of the Marine Standards and Practices Committee. Of the near 30 members in the Hampton Roads chapter, 6 are Honorary Fellows and 3 are Fellows with the SAWE International.
