This paper presents an analysis of seawater density data and relates the findings to submarine design impacts. Oceanographic temperature, depth, and salinity data from all the Earth’s oceans and seas were analyzed to test the hypothesis that the standard heavy density value used by the US Navy could be reduced for certain submarine designs. The data support the hypothesis. Design impacts of reducing water density requirement are noted. The paper includes a summary table of all the data and detailed summary sheets for each of the 100 separate datasets used in the analysis.
