Abstract
At the S.A.W.E. Conference in 1970 a paper, No. 837, was delivered by two Lockheed Airplane Company engineers, Mr. L. P. Ferrante, Jr. and Mr. Francis R. J. Waung. The paper described the Electro Development Corporation’s On-Board Weight and Balance System on the Lockheed L-l011. The On-Board Weight and Balance System has now completed its flight testing and has gone into Airline Service with TWA and Courtline.
The data obtained from the flight test program, conducted by Lockheed Airplane Co., indicates that the system operated within design limits. The data collected from TWA to date, indicates that the system is performing in service as it did during the flight test program.
Early experience with the system has been very good despite some startup problems which have now been largely resolved.
The system is free from zero or gain shifts, is capable of being easily maintained and promises to be a valuable tool in improved aircraft operations.
